Architectural Design II

Form and Function in Architecture
Since the Enlightenment, architects have asked whether a building’s shape should show its purpose or simply exist for beauty’s sake. Claude Perrault first explored this idea, describing positive beautyas harmony, balance, and proportion, and arbitrary beauty as something shaped by culture, use, and feeling. Later, architect Louis Sullivan summed it up with his famous line: form follows function.

This project looks at how design can be both honest and beautiful finding meaning in the way form and function work together.
